  1. It is not easy to convince people that if one 
  2. describes a process, one is not taking a stand, 
  3. pro or con. As a professor of literature, I am 
  4. entirely on the side of print. As a person living in 
  5. an electrical environment of information, I 
  6. naturally study the effects of this new form on all 
  7. of us. I do not endorse either electrical 
  8. technology, or its effects. TV, for example, is a far 
  9. more virulent pollutant than anything identified so 
  10. far by the anti-pollution ecologists. The polluting 
  11. powers of TV have nothing to do with the 
  12. programme content. The massive media effects of 
  13. a language, Russian, Chinese, English, German, 
  14. etc. on our entire ways of seeing and feeling are
